The Peermont Education Trust enabled 46 learners from Ekurhuleni to obtain accredited certificates during the Lesedi Programme, graduation ceremony on Thursday.
Emperors Palace hosted the event at the Negotiating Council Chamber, and awarded one year certificates to electricians, chefs, receptionists as well as in food and beverage.
The trust, working through Emperors Palace, provides annual learnerships to qualifying students, giving them an opportunity to work at the casino while they learn.
Lesedi learnership programme is part of Peermont’s Corporate Social Investment and Responsibility, and has assisted hundreds of youngsters.
Electricians do a three-year learnership programme with PNT Technology, and certificates were presented to learners from NQF level 1 to 4.
Mncedisi Mthabela (23) from Phumla Mcashi, Duduza is one of the beneficiaries of electrician learnership.
Mncedisi and two other Kwatsaduza residents received their level 3 certificates, while Mbali Buthelezi from Tsakane was described as “ambitious, self-driven and going far”.
The 23-year-old former JE Malepe Secondary School learner was recognised as one of the top students receiving two distinctions, and was given another prize for being the top front receptionist.
Mbali was part of a group selected to do a first year block release, hospitality management course at the University of Johannesburg, where she continued to excel.
