Calling for their freedom

Little kids spread a big message

Children from crèches in Ward 80, KwaThema, carried colourful placards during their march for the missing Nigerian girls on May 28.

The groups chanted and sang songs, one group in Ncwadi Street and the other in Rabolou Street,’asking for the return of their abducted sisters’.

Although one group was in Rest In Peace while the other was in Vergenoeg, they could see each other, until both groups arrived at Bulithando Park, where they ended their march.

The event was hosted by the Ward 80 Women’s sector, supported by principals, the local community safety team, with the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department leading the march.

Speaking for the Women’s sector, Zandile Dzingwa said crèches were targeted because they are the foundation of education.

“We took the opportunity to raise issues of child protection and speak up against the abuse and the kidnapping of children in our community,” added Zandile.
