Weeds on the street

Nowhere to drive

Streets are commonly made of tar, sand and gravel, but Odeke Street is made of grass and weeds.

Tall grass in the middle of the street greets you, while the corner has a collage of carpets, meant to suck up the stagnant water.

The area in Extension Eight Langaville was dubbed Robben Island because of the water in the area.

Sipho Msimango a resident of Odeke says stagnant water is the reason why he placed the carpets.

“Funeral cars, ambulances and police are some of the cars that can’t enter the street, especially after it has rained, so the carpets assist,” he says.

Tseliso Mpholo a fellow Odeke resident says his business relies heavily on customers coming with cars to collect their orders, but sometimes its just impossible for any vehicle to enter the street.

“We have been raising the issue during meetings for years, yet nothing is done,” said Tseliso.

The African Reporter approached council to ask why the street has not been fixed.

At the time of printing, no comment had been received.
