Local muslims set the record straight

Killing misconceptions

A mock debate and a march were held by Umuzi Muslim Organisation on June 21, with the aim of educating non-Muslims from KwaThema about Islam and its stance on being a religion of peace, not of terror or violence.

The group marched from their place of prayer called Al-mustafa masjid in Extension Four, to inform the public that their religion is against Boko Haram, which is labelled as a terrorist group.

Nkazimulo Moyeni from Umuzi, which was formed by Muslim youth, said they marched because it is part of their moral duty as human beings and as Africans to highlight the plight of 271 Nigerian girls abducted more than three months ago.

He added that they call upon local and international political institutions to prioritise the girls’ safety and safe return.
