‘Do not pay R7 in a local taxi’

Commuters are advised not to pay R7 when using a local taxi in and around KwaThema

It has been brought to the Springs Taxi Association’s attention that there are 4+1 (Izigcebhe) taxis that have fake notices notifying the commuters of an increase in taxi fare.

This follows yet more fake notices that were placed in most of the local taxis in March this year, informing the passengers of the taxi transport fare increase.

STA’s PRO Thomas Kabini, confirmed that there are local taxis which operate between KwaThema, Mzumbe and Wight Park that have notices stating that taxi fare will increase to R7 from July 15.

He says these are fake notices and that people should continue to pay R6.

“The taxi fare increase is only effective when the notices are from the STA,” says Kabini.

He says the local taxi drivers that will force their passengers to pay R7 will be robbing people of their money.

“The local taxi transport fare has not increased and passengers must not pay R7 but pay R6 when using a local taxi,”says Kabini.

He advised the passengers to take the registration number of the local taxi whose driver forced them to pay R7 and report the matter to the STA offices.

Kabini says to avoid being robbed of the money that you worked hard for by corrupt drivers, passengers must ensure that the notices placed on these taxis have the taxi association’s logo, letterhead and the names of the association’s executive members at the bottom.

“Those who make the passengers pay R7 are committing fraud and the STA will not tolerate the drivers who want to rob people of their money,” says Kabini.
