New orphanage in KwaThema
The Kingdom Future Kids is an orphanage in KwaThema where parents who do not want their babies can drop them off to be cared for by the staff.
The centre in KwaThema’s Extension One has been operational for two years and has recently installed a baby safe where parents can leave newborm babies.
The safe looks like a box fitted into the wall of the orphanage and once a baby has been put into the box, staff will take the baby out and care for it.
The home was founded by Connie Mokgotsi after she realised many newborn babies were being abandoned by their parents.
She said the centre welcomes the unwanted newborn babies and the orphans.
One of the employees at the centre, Gugu Ndala said the centre is also aimed at discouraging the termination of pregnancies because parents feel that they are not ready to be parents.
“Some of the young girls find themselves under pressure and decide to do the illegal abortions just to get rid of the unborn baby. This sometimes puts their lives in danger,” said Ndala.
“We assure the community that, when one puts the baby inside that box, it is private and no one sees her,” said Ndala.
The new centre is situated at 1005 Siyaga street in Nyanyadu section.
