Duduza celebrates 50 years

The Duduza Ministers Fraternal (DMF) celebrated 50 years of Duduza township's existence on Sunday.

The celebration, held at the Agape Christian Family Church, was also aimed at praying for the challenges faced by Duduza residents.

Rev Mali Mashinini, who was the organiser of the event, explained that the first group of people moved from Alra Park in Nigel to Duduza in 1964.

He said despite the challenges faced by the youth of Duduza, DMF wants to educate them about the history of their home township.

“Duduza has produced many well known people such as Ntombi Mekgwe, Khulu Sibiya and Njabulo Ndebele,” said Mashinini.

He said it breaks his heart to see young people destroying their lives with drugs because they have lost hope of a better life in the future and that the churches are not united.

“After 50 years of the township’s existence, it is the churches’ responsibility to pray for the challenges faced by the community,” he said.

One of the young people living in Duduza, Nombulelo Dlamini, said she wishes for more jobs for the people in Duduza.

She then encouraged the youth to focus on their studies, create employment for themselves and not wait for the government to create jobs for them.

She challenged them to continue flying high the flag of Duduza.
