Feedback meeting at Bakerton Hall

The City of Ekurhuleni held a feedback meeting for the Springs community at Bakerton Community Hall last Thursday.

Following the mayoral imbizo held on September 17 at the Bakerton Hall where residents from wards 72,75, 77, 76 and 86 raised their concerns, MMC for finance Moses Makwakwa gave feedback on what the metro has done regarding their concerns.

Residents from Daggafontein, Welgedatch, Slovo Park, Payneville and Gugulethu/Everest who were transported by buses, filled the hall to listen to the report from the metro.

One of the concerns raised by residents was the stopping of the development at Payneville Extension One.

The development, that has been going on for more than two years, is one of the concerns that Payneville residents wanted to hear about.

Reporting on the issue, Makwakwa explained that the metro is still waiting for the high court’s decision following an appeal by the private developers opposing the development in that area.

However, Makwakwa promised residents that the metro will win the appeal case and the residents will be moved to a developed area.

Giving a report concerning the need for the high mast lights and electricity in Slovo Park and Daggafontein, Makwakwa said the two areas are informal settlements and electricity can only be provided to formal proclaimed areas in terms of the legislation.

Residents listened as Makwakwa was talking and walked out of the hall after he was done without asking questions or needing more information or clarity on what he said.
