‘Giving is my calling’

A good heart is what drives Nobantu Yeki (66) to provide lunch for children in different primary schools in KwaThema.

Yeki from Thubelisha in KwaThema, has been providing free lunch to the learners at Theo Thwala and Umsobomvu Primary Schools.

She says she has been feeding children out of her own pocket for more than five years.

“My love for children started many years ago and I will continue to provide for the children,” says Yeki, adding that what motivated her to provide for the children is realising that there are children who go to school without eating breakfast at home.

The unemployed mother and grandmother says it hurts her to see a child suffering.

She says it is her dream to see children look the same at school.

Yeki does not only provide lunch but also donates school uniforms to the learners.

She says one of her dreams is to see no child suffering because of her background.

Umsobomvu Primary School principal, Caroline Motha says the school is very grateful for what Yeki is doing for the learners in her school.

“She puts a smile on the faces of our learners,” said Motha.
