Rape suspect in court

A rape suspect appeared in the Springs Regional Court Two last Thursday.

Angry residents of KwaThema and Struisbult protested outside the Springs Court shouting that the suspect be sent to jail.

The suspect allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in Struisbult.

According to the victim’s guardian, the girl was raped on April 7 last year, but the guardian only became aware of the incident on May 17, 2013.

She explained that the victim talked about what happened as she was lying on a hospital bed after she tried to commit suicide.

She said the victim explained to her that the suspect raped her after he convinced a group of virgin young girls’ parents that he was going to give motivation and counselling to the girls in an attempt to prepare them to be good musicians.

“The suspect booked different times for appointments with the girls at his place in Struisbult,” claimed the guardian.

Alleging that the suspect forced the victim to his bedroom where he raped her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

In court, magistrate Bennita Oswell ordered everyone out of the court room as the victim was called into the witness stand to tell the magistrate about what happened on the day of the incident.

The case was postponed to December 19 and the suspect is expected to appear on the witness stand to defend himself against the rape allegation.
