Potholes pose danger
There are potholes and a leaking pipe which have been a problem for years at Mohlala and Baduza streets.
Resident Bongane Mkhwanazi says there is a pipe which is leaking and is causing these potholes which make it hard for pedestrians and motorists to pass.
He says the community has tried to put sand in these potholes but due to the water pressure it is almost useless to try to do so.
Mkhwanazi adds the municipality has come before to try and fix the leaking pipe but the problem always starts again after a few months.
Community member Ndodi Mbuli says he is very concerned for children using this road on a daily basis because cars drive on the pavements now to avoid the flooded potholes.
“The 4+1 taxis are the ones who normally use this road and are always in a hurry to drop off commuters at their destinations” says Mbuli.
According to Ward 78 councillor Thoko Gadebe, the underground leaking pipe has been a problem for many years and council has tried to resolve the problem on numerous occasions.
Gadebe says there is a local business on the street which is responsible for were the main leakage exists and the owners are responsible for fixing this pipe.
She explains the municipality has tried to fix the problem, digging up the road to fix the pipe but it seems the leakage continues afterwards.
“The municipality cannot fix a pipe on privately owned property” says Gadebe.
In her conclusion she says the matter has been reported to the department of roads to try to get the issue resolved.
