The book is biographical and tells the story of the author who is a gay man’s mother who always knew her son is gay but could not confirm her sons sexuality until her son came out to her.
The book introduces us to the religious environment in which the small boy grew up and the background of the family, particularly the mother.
It challenges scriptures from the Bible that are “against” homosexuality and how Christians view the subject differently.
The young ambitious son before he elopes and accepts a job offer in Cape Town, drops the astonishing news of his sexuality.
We see the rising action of the book when the son comes out of the closet and that is were we see the woman’s resistance to the “change” that is about to come.
The journey of acceptance is explored from a parent’s view, when she she later discovers her son is no only gay but also married and is expecting twins from a surrogate.
The author shares a powerful statement with the reader “Life has taught me to simply handle things that I can’t accept or agree with, with love and without judgement”.
This emotionally moving book is a must read for young and old and people dealing with relationships.
