Illegal dumping still a problem in KwaThema

KwaThema - An illegal dumping site has been a problem in Motsugi Street, White City, KwaThema, for the last five years, despite numerous attempts by the municipality to clean the site.

Faith Nkosi says the site has been a problem since 2010, when the municipality first cleaned it.

She explains that the problem is not that the municipality does not clean the site regularly, but rather the community, who keep dumping illegally in the area,

She says business trucks and community members keep on dumping on a daily basis, despite knowing it is wrong.

“I don’t know why people keep on dumping near our yards, as this has an effect on our health”, says Nkosi.

Ward 79’s Clr Ivy Nkosi says she is aware of the matter and has reported it to the relevant department.

She is also concerned with the health of the children in the area, as the site is next to a park.

“I urge all community members of KwaThema to report the matter to the KwaThema Customer Care Centre as soon as possible if their bins are full before the waste truck arrives” she adds.
