KwaThema - The Ekurhuleni Pride Organisation Committee (Epoc) will host a sports day at Bulithando Park on June 16.

The sports day is aimed at celebrating Youth Day.

Epoc spokesperson Bontle Khalo says there will be fun athletic activities like soccer and netball, as well as indigenous games such as Mogusha and Mrabaraba.

“We have also included activities such as the three-legged race, sack race and egg-and-spoon spoon race,” says Khalo.

Khalo adds the day will serve to create awareness about the challenges faced by the LGBTI community, such as hate crimes and discrimination.

They hope it will also address the stereotypes and misconceptions some people have about the LGBTI community.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

The park is situated in Kgaswane Street, and the sports day will take place from 10am until 5pm.Khalo explains there will be entertainment and a picnic for all to enjoy.
