The victim was alone at the scrap yard in at Flouride Street, in Daggafontein, at around 8pm, when two intruders stormed inside.
Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the suspects demanded cash from the victim.
It is alleged that the robbers used a hammer to beat the victim before taking copper to the value of R20 0000 and leaving the scene.
No shots were fired and the police are investigating a case of business robbery.
