The pedestrian was walking along Majola and KwaThema Road, on Saturday, at around 7.45pm, when the incident occurred.
According to KwaThema police spokesman Capt Mandla Phori, the man was transported to the hospital by ambulance, after sustaining injuries to his body.
Phori says a witness reported the driver of the car to the police.
The driver (52) was called into the police station and confessed to having hit the man and then fleeing the scene.
He was charged with reckless and negligent driving.
