Tsakane police spokesman Capt Petros Mabuza says the couple had withdrawn cash from a bank at the Tsakane Mall and had arrived home at around 5pm when the robbers struck.
He says police suspect the couple was followed from the bank.
No arrests have been made and police are investigating a case of robbery.
