Correctional Services gives back
Duduza - In honour of Mandela Day the Nigel Correctional Services donated blankets and 30 pairs of school shoes to the Nigel Caring Community (NCC).
Last Thursday, prison officials spent 67 minutes with the children at the NCC centre serving soup, playing games and giving educational talks about crime and safety.
The Nigel Correctional Services are no strangers to the NCC, as they continually donate to and complete charity work for the NCC throughout the year.
David Mnisi (45), secretary of the poverty alleviation committee, explained how important it is for them as correctional services to give back to the community and to engage with children.
“Giving back to the community is very important, so the we are not looked at as people who just deal with criminals but also as active members of the community,” said Mnisi.
King Xaba (50), NCC project manager, said the donations made by the correctional services is of great help to the many children who don’t have school shoes, especially in winter.
“We are happy that the children will have new school shoes to wear when the schools reopen and we appreciate the correctional services for their generous donations”, said Xaba.
