Basetsana talks to youth about future
Tsakane - While other young people complain about not having enough experience to be employed, Basetsana Phora (23) spends her time gaining experience through volunteer work.
Basetsana, a Tsakane resident, works as a volunteer for both the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependance (SANCA) and From a Girl to a Woman, a non-profit organisation in Tsakane.
She understands that many unemployed young people blame the government for not creating enough jobs for them and encourages the youth to use the opportunities presented to them by local organisations and other government departments.
“There are organisations that are looking for people to do voluntary work and helps them gain the necessary experience and skills that will help them find employment in the future,” says Basetsana.
Helping the community without expecting a salary at the end of the month gives Basetsana fulfillment and happiness because she knows that she has brought a change to someone’s life.
Basetsana gives drug educational talks in schools and clinics in and around Kwatsaduza and believes that drugs destroy the future of the youth and is a major reason for the poverty in the country.
“It is true that there are young people who lost their jobs because of their addiction to drugs,” says Basetsana.
She challenges the youth to strive for a better future and to stop using drugs.
