Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says Albert Mandla Futshane (49) was sentenced in the Springs Regional Court.
He says Futshane raped a five-year-old girl at the Never Never informal settlement in Springs, in October 2014.
Futshane was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The court recommended that his name be registered on the National Registry for Sex Offenders and that he should never work with children.
“We hope that this sentence will send a message to other rapists,” says Ramphora.
