Youth given hope
Tsakane – The Department of Labour, in partnership with Ithemba Foundation and Ingxoxo' Talk, hosted an employment workshop for young job seekers.
The workshop was held last Friday at the Gospel Action Church in Extension Six, Langaville.
Speaking on behalf of Ithemba Foundation, Sandile Tsie says the event is aimed at providing disadvantaged youth with information and education on economic opportunities that are available to them.
He says they still find a lot of young people struggle to get information about bursaries and employment and entrepreneurship programmes.
Tsie adds that this is caused by unemployment and a lack of financial aid.
“Accessing a computer is still a problem for some young people in disadvantaged areas because they don’t have money to go to internet cafés or are unable to use a computer,” says Tsie.
The initiative sought to link unemployed youth with potential institutions that can hire them when opportunities are available.
The Department of Labour will capture their CVs and avail them to organisations seeking employees.
“With the Department of Labour committing to provide employers with the data, it will make it easier for those who cannot apply for jobs because of lack of resources,” says Tsie.
Ithemba Foundation also focuses on giving the youth skills and training so they have a fair chance when entering the job market.
“We believe by equipping young people with skills, they become more employable and are able to take advantage of job opportunities,” says Tsie.
