Organisation gets sponsorship

Tsakane - The Noluthando Old Ladies and Disabled Project in Tsakane has received a sponsorship from a local pharmacy for the next six months.

Senior citizens from Tsakane come together to make various traditional artworks ranging from beaded necklaces to traditional attire and shoes.

“We are more than happy for this generous sponsorship from a local businessman who heard about the work we do to keep ourselves busy and make extra money,” says Betty Shabangu, the project manager.

She says they have been struggling to get material to make their artwork and also to feed members of the organisation.

“We meet everyday at my house and work on our art, we then all need to have lunch and that is sometime a challenge for us,” explains Shabangu.

Shabangu adds that it is the first time since they started with the project that a business has committed to assisting them for a period of time.

“We do get help from local churches and organisations but not on a monthly basis, so we are excited that we will be able to manage the material we buy with the money we will be receiving every month,” says excited Shabangu.

Businessman Bhanoyi Ntiwana says he felt the need to assist the senior citizens because they don’t get much from their grants to feed themselves and also buy material for their project, which is essential in keeping them busy and providing them with extra pocket money.

“Our senior citizens are the most valuable assets in the community, they have the wisdom to teach the youth about culture and tradition.

“We need to preserve what they doing so they can teach youngsters how to make traditional artwork and attire,” says Ntiwana.
