Culture promoted in the community
KwaThema – Residents are invited to a heritage celebration on September 17, at the KwaThema Community Hall.

Traditional leaders, in partnership with the Department of Arts and Culture, are organising the talent event to promote tradition and culture in the community.
According to Chief Thembinkosi Vazi Ngingi Africans need to go back to their culture and start to appreciate their own music and dance and cultural attire.
He believes the youth have lost touch with who they are because they don’t know their heritage and, through events that encourage culture, they are seeking to bridge the gap.
“We need to emphasise to the youth the importance of protecting our culture and embracing it.
“It saddens us to see some young people cannot even identify different cultures and their attire.
“We, as traditional leaders, have an important role to play in ensuring that our culture and traditions don’t fade away and our children know where they come from,” he says.
People wanting to be a part of the talent search event may enter. There is no age restriction.
There will be different categories for different cultural activities, including best-dressed traditional attire, and best traditional dance, song and poetry.
To register to be a part of the event contact Vazi Ngingi on 083 883 6499.
Registration will close on September 13 for all entries.
