Celebrating Heritage Day through arts

KwaThema – A Move for Transformation Ministries production, from KwaThema, will be participating in the Gauteng Carnival, on Saturday.

The carnival, to celebrate Heritage Day through arts and culture, will start at Pilditch Stadium, in Pretoria, and proceed to the Union Buildings.

According to Transformation Ministries project leader Mandla Namo (24), they have been part of the event for the past five years and he is one of the head choreographers for the event.

He says he will be taking along a 195-member group, consisting of children aged from 14 years upwards.

He has been teaching them to celebrate Heritage Day by embracing different cultural groups.

“The organisation aims to keep the youth off the streets by getting them involved in arts, be it poetry, fine art, music or dance,” he explains.

“What we do is enhance every member’s skill, to get them interested in different arts and also active in the community.

“Our youth need to be kept busy to prevent them from getting into negative activities in the community.”

Namo adds that it will also be a great opportunity and inspiration for his students to go and see their peers perform, and experience first-hand how art is alive in the country.

Namo invites all interested youth to come to Tsimong Primary School in KwaThema, from Tuesday to Friday, from 3pm till 5.30pm.
