Action learning methods
Kwatsaduza – Professor Kennedy Skosana shares his knowledge on why students fail and this week he is giving tips on strategic approaches to pass exams.
He says every student needs to approach exams by doing the following:
• Read and summarize using your own words. Paraphrase important facts.
• Write your own notes for each subject. Put ideas with a sketch or decorate each fact with colours.
• Make connections, with what you already know and understand, between ideas. There is no need to know separate facts without understanding how they fit together.
• Be disciplined to follow your study time. Review the work daily at home, this way you are not going to forget information.

• Get organised and have separate exercise books for each subject. Write and doodle information because in this way your notes are going to be organised and ready for review to refresh your memory.
• Consider past exam papers to test yourself. This way you will discover your weakness and reinforce your memory to answer questions correctly.
Practise the following at home and with your study group:
• Explain, discuss, state, define and describe.
• Compose and contrast where you are not sure, consult the dictionary to understand what the question requires.

• To succeed you have to show determination and diligence in your studies.
Work smart:
• Be specific.
• Measure and manage your schoolwork.
• Have a positive attitude.
• Celebrate success with rewards.
• Train your mind.
“Go for the best in your life. Success comes after hard work.
“Students need to be diligent and strategic in order to work smart,” says Skosana.
