Breakfast meeting in Tsakane

Tsakane – Over 200 senior citizens gathered at the Tsakane Day Care Centre on Saturday for the first sitting of the Ward 85 quarterly programme which aims to ensure all those living in the ward are taken care of.

To kick off the programme senior citizens were the first to be given the platform to engage with their local leadership.

Ward Councillor, Sipho Sibiya explains the aim of the programme is to deal with and pay attention to the issues that elders in the community are facing, in order to outline the major issues which need attention.

He says this is a way they are trying to build a close relationship with the community to try and speed up the process of service delivery and attend to complaints more efficiently in the ward.

“It has come to our attention that sometimes senior citizens are forgotten and we focus our attention on the youth, so with this programme we will ensure that every resident living in the community will have the opportunity to voice their concerns.

“This will be an on-going programme which will focus on different groups and issues at various times.

“Going forward we will be giving the youth and people living with disabilities the platform to also engage with us.

“Also, we have partnered with local stakeholders and business people to come on board to assist us as we try and strengthen our relationships with the community,” he says.
