Mathematics Excelling Academy invites learners for extra classes

KwaThema - The Mathematics Excelling Academy is inviting parents of young people who need help with extra maths lessons to reach out to them.

Founder of the programme, Collen Msibi says they assist Grade Eight to Twelve learners with maths.

They also offer help with science, however due to lack of tutors, this help is only offered when the need arises.

“I started this initiative in 2011 when I was still in college as my peers and other young people would come to me for help.

“That is where I realised I really enjoyed this and that it is where my passion lies.

“So I decided to unite people like me, so that we could help all those young people who were in need of support,” he says.

The young people attend on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3pm and 5pm.

“We are currently using the Langaville Secondary School behind the Ekhaya Shopping Complex situated at the Duduza Rank.

“There are three of us who are tutoring and we do this as we see that there is a national crisis when it comes to maths,” he says.

Msibi adds that their pass rate has been great with the youngsters they are helping.

Last year all 36 of their learners from Grade Eight to Eleven passed.
