Tsakane police help with the fight against substance abuse

Tsakane SAPS has joined the fight against substance abuse in the area.

Tsakane – As part of the on-going programme for substance users who volunteered to be rehabilitated, Tsakane Social Crime Prevention, communications and Sector Four manager held a meeting with volunteers.

This is a group that is undergoing the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Sanca) rehabilitation programme as outpatients.

The Tsakane police spokesperson, Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu, says the meeting was part of the evaluation of the recovering users.

“This is to evaluate their progress and whether they are still undergoing the programme.

“Many of the addicts drop out during the programme because it is not easy,” she says.

“We also aim to motivate them and if the results are not satisfying we also reprimand, instill discipline.

“We know it is not going to be an easy journey but we are here to support them.

“The number of the volunteers is not steady but we are encouraging those who are eager to be clean and pick-up the pieces of their lives to adhere to the programme.

“It is never too late to reclaim their lives and reach for their dreams,” she says.
