Local market to help expose local small businesses

Small businesses are given the opportunity to market themselves within the community.

KwaThema – KwaThema Fashion Market is inviting residents to attend and support their flea market initiative.

At the event, residents will be spoiled for choice with a variety of services ranging from secondhand clothes, nice food and performances by local artists.

Organiser Portia Sibanyoni she decided to host the events in the area after attending similar events in Tshwane.

“We have realised that there weren’t such activities, yet there is a market for it.

“This is a platform for different small businesses to market their businesses to the locals,” she says.

Another organiser, Mzwakhe Mongwe, says they are encouraging residents to sell their old clothes at the market.

“We are trying to recycle old clothes at a reasonable price rather than throwing them away.

“This is to try to bring old fashion trends back in style while promoting recycling.

“We encouraging residents to bring their clean old clothes, set up a stall for free for the first three months and make money out of the clothes you no longer use,” he says.

Mzwakhe says those who want stalls will only be expected to pay R100 at their fourth market.

“The small donation will help us in sustaining the market, especially with hiring sound systems, chairs and tables.

“We are encouraging people who are interested in selling traditional food to come forward.

“Upcoming artists are also invited to showcase their talent on stage.

“We are hoping to attract more people as the initiative grows.

“The next market will be hosted on April 1 at VLV Lounge,” says Mzwakhe.
