Elderly receive blankets on Mother’s Day

“We have identified that when they reach this age they are often forgotten by society and their children we chase our own dreams.”

KwaThema – The elderly at The Lord is a Man of War Ministries were treated like royalty on Mother’s Day, receiving blankets as a token of appreciation on Sunday.

This was part of the annual international day celebrations held to honour and appreciate mothers across the world.

Pastor Joey Oosthuizen says this year they decided to give the elders blankets as a token of their appreciation.

“We annually host lunch and celebrate with them but this year we decided to give them blankets to help them keep warm this winter.

“We identified 15 elders from the church to treat and to celebrate their contribution to the church and society in general.

“We have identified that when they reach this age they are often forgotten and ill-treated by society.

“Sometimes we think people have enough blankets but it is not always the case,” he says.

Oosthuizen says they are calling on the residents to take good care of the elderly members of the society and not keep them behind locked doors.

“They need love and support from all of us and should be spoiled whenever we can.

“They are still part of the society even though they are no longer active or contribute to the economy of the country,” he says.
