John Dube gets scholar transport
Parents from John Dube have been successful in their demand for the Gauteng Department of Education to provide buses for learners.
Duduza – After being relocated to John Dube, from Zamani section, parents realised that their children would have many challenges getting to the different schools within Duduza.
Convener of Councillors in Duduza and Tsakane, Thabo Motaung says the department dragged its feet in coming up with a resolution.

“The children struggled with transport, and most of them walk through thick bushes to get to school.
“This is not safe.”
Motaung says in 2013 the department distributed bicycles to the learners, but they were soon stolen.
“In 2014 the department gave us one bus to, that only transported learners form one primary school,” he explains.
Over the years the new community has grown angry, feeling that their requests for more scholar transport were disregarded by GDE.
On Wednesday the angry parents gathered at the Customer Care Centre demanding the attention of MEC Panyaza Lesufi.

“This was not the first protest.
“But that people had had enough,” says the councillor.
The MEC’s office sent Vuyisile Mpofu to address the angry crowd.
They were not prepared to let him go until a resolution was reached.
“Initially the recommendations were not positive.”
And the crowd did not accept it.
On Thursday, the MEC sent Joe Mpishi to address the crowd.
“They finally agreed to give us four more buses.
“And the parents are really pleased with that.
“On Thursday they agreed to give us four buses.”
Members of the community say the buses made a successful run on Monday.
