Young people make a difference to the less fortunate

Young people celebrated June 16 by lending a helping hand to the children at Tsakane Therapy Centre last Saturday.

Tsakane – The group donated funds, played with the children and helped the workers at the centre with their chores.

Event organiser Gugulethu Msimanga says, together with a friend, Vuyiswa Ngaleka, they decided to honour the youth of 1976 by helping those who are less fortunate.

“We chose the centre because they are taking care of children with special needs.

“We felt they would be proud of us even more if we honoured their legacy by not wearing school uniforms and filling taverns but by helping others.

“Community members were also encouraged to donate food parcels to help the centre because they are an NGO and depend on sponsorship and donations for survival,” she says.

Gugulethu says they donated funds which will go towards affording some of their basic needs.

“We also donated a first aid kit which we are hoping they will use in cases of emergency.

“Through the interaction with the helpers and the children we were able to see another side to life.

“We should all give a helping hand to those who are less fortunate,” she says.
