Men reach out to home for #67min
Sonqoba Simunye Burial Group donated much-needed blankets to the children of Chance Children’s Home in Dunnottar on Mandela Day.
The group of men from Duduza did their bit to celebrate the legacy of Madiba by making sure the children stay warm through the winter.
“We know that Tata loved the little children.
“That is why giving back to them is especially important to us,” says Mthetheleli Mini, the group’s charity co-ordinator.

A total of 31 blankets were donated.
“Even though we do a lot for the home, Mandela Day gives us a chance to reflect and see if we can even do more.”
Last year the group bought each one of the children at the centre a jacket.
“We are looking at more ways of being relevant to their needs.
“Our efforts extend to the rest of the community.”
They gave out blankets to other members of the community in Duduza a few weeks ago.
Mini says they have forged a strong bond with the home.

“We did not realise the extent to which these children need father figures, but we are here now and we are committed.”
Mini says the men will make further visits to help the children with homework and to play with them.
The ultimate intention is to be good role models for the boys that grow up at the home.
“We hope that they will always remember these visits and be reassured that they are loved for the rest of the lives.”
