Residents of Tsakane share their housing challenges with their political leaders

“Already, 209 service stands are being constructed and will be completed by end of August 2018.”

Tsakane – Over 500 residents of Tsakane attended the service delivery performance report by the ANC Ekurhuleni caucus held at Faranani Multi-purpose Centre last Friday.

This was part of Taking Caucus to the People (TCP) in David Bopape Zone which is aimed at giving service delivery performance reports to the residents and maintain an accountable service delivery driven government with the residents.

David Bopape Zone covers Tsakane, Geluksdal, Duduza/Nigel, Alra Park and Windmill areas.

ANC Chief Whip Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, MMC for Human Settlement, Clr Lesiba Mpya and Speaker of Council Clr Patricia Kumalo conducted an oversight visit in Extension 22.

Dlabathi says already 209 service stands are being constructed and will be completed by end of August 2018.

“The project is expected to have 6 200 units, but to date, 2 591 houses have been completed and the electrification of houses is underway.

“Some members of the community from Tsakane, KwaThema and Duduza and more rightful beneficiaries and they have been allocated houses.

 

The residents of Tsakane shared their housing grievances with their politically elected leaders during a meeting at Faranani Multi-purpose Centre.

“The entire project is expected to be completed by 2021,” he explains.

He further says the project will benefit the local residents and especially those from Block C and have been waiting in line since 1996.

Residents were warned against illegally occupying municipal houses and vandalising the properties in Ext 22.

“The government, with the help of the law agencies, will deal with those responsible harshly,” he says.

MMC Mpya says the electrification of all informal settlements, construction of 10 000 housing units and provision of 59 000 service stands is part our manifesto commitment.

“This is to ensure and maintain proper accountability in as far as government work is concerned,” he says.
