Community gathers for Modderbee Correctional Facility Inter-faith Revival
Speakers were on hand to motivate the staff and also emphasised to the community at large it is not only the inmates who need their support but the officials who work at the facility need their support too.
The Modderbee Correctional Facility held their first inter-faith revival on Wednesday morning.
Reverends, pastors, apostles, ministers and community members from Vosloorus, Daveyton, KwaThema and Springs joined members of the community and staff from the facility to pray and revive their spiritual health.

From the onset, it was clear the revival, which was the brainchild of Rev Oscar Madlala, the facility’s chaplain, was a much-needed source of joy and inspiration for the staff and community.
The turnout was excellent and those who attended left feeling blessed and ready to tackle the rest of the year.

“Today is about the wellness of our colleagues who work with the outcasts of society, and we recognise it is not an easy job.
“It has been a difficult year where we lost three colleagues in succession.
“We are here to revive ourselves, it has been a long year and our cups are empty,” says Moipone Makhetha, a staff member at the facility.
Speakers were on hand to motivate the staff and also emphasised to the community at large it is not only the inmates who need their support but the officials who work at the facility need their support too.

Attendees were reminded that correction of inmates is also a societal responsibility.
Lightening the proceedings was up-and-coming comedian Tsietsi Matlakala who had the attendees rolling with laughter as he pointed out the different practices of various church groups.

Other performers included the popular gospel group Amadoda ase Weseli whose harmonious voices had the audience singing along, as well as the facility’s own choir.
The day ended with a hearty lunch for all.
