Home spoils children to a picnic day
“They have rights and deserve to be treated fairly like any citizen of this country.”
KwaThema – Sibusiso Children’s Home hosted their second annual picnic day for children with special needs at Indaba Tree on Saturday.
Over 50 children from all the centres in the area were in attendance playing and singing.
The founder of the home, Jabulile Molakeng, says they felt the need to invite the children with special needs because events catering for their needs are limited.

“Many of the children are often locked behind doors because they don’t have anywhere to go, especially in the festive season.
“We want to show them that there is nothing wrong with them and that they are loved and appreciated by the society.
“They must know from a young age that they have a place in the society and that is not behind locked doors,” she says.
The centre operates from 14 Nyakale Street, Highland, and was officially launched in November 2017.
Molakeng says they are taking care of children with epilepsy and those born with disabilities.

Molakeng says they are happy with the help and support they are receiving from the community since the centre was formed.
“We are calling on parents who have children born with a disability to enrol in the centres so that they can receive the necessary support and treatment.
“The days of locking children with disabilities behind closed doors are over,” says Molakeng.
“They have rights and deserve to be treated fairly like any citizen of this country.”
