Daveyton Church practices what they preach

Bhekimfundo Primary School was abuzz with harmonious singing on December 8 as the Church of God and Saints of Christ gave out food parcels to less privileged community members.

Daveyton – Bhekimfundo Primary School was abuzz with harmonious singing on December 8 as the Church of God and Saints of Christ gave out food parcels to less privileged community members.

Pastor Sandile Ndlamlenze encouraged members of the church to support the initiative which was started in 2017 and is intended to become an annual commitment.

“When God has blessed you, you must bless others,” Ndlamlenze said.

“God blesses the hand that blesses without expecting anything in return,” he said in his sermon.

The pastor spoke of the happiness that is brought about by the festive season, and that there are families who are unable to partake in the feast of the season because of their dire economic situation.

“This is a happy time so the church thought it would be a good idea to help those who are struggling so we can bring a smile to their faces, even if it is only for a little while,” he said.

The parcels, which consisted of mealie meal, rice and cooking oil, among others, were bought using contributions from the church members throughout the year.

The pastor expressed thanks to members of the church who also gave of their time and took on the task of purchasing and packing the parcels.

The families who received the parcels were not from the church, which pastor Ndlamlenze says is part of the church’s responsibility to the community.

“We asked our church members to inform us of any neighbours or family members who would appreciate the gifts,” he explained.

Two of the recipients of the parcels joined as members of the church after the service, although none of them was obliged to.

The church, which holds weekly services at Bhekimfundo Primary School in Daveyton from 10am to 6pm on Saturdays, hopes to find premises to hold services.
