Tsakane youth spends time with elderly
“We felt the need to fill the gap. We are their family,”
Inkosinothando Foundation visited the Tsakane Old Age Home on January 12.
According to Ntando Moeketsi of the foundation, the visit was to remind the elderly that there are still people who love them.
“There are elders who stay there who do not even get visits from their families – some do not even have a family.
“We felt the need to fill the gap. We are their family,” says Moeketsi.

Moeketsi, who is a semi-finalist in the Ms Inspire South Africa 2019 pageant, says the idea for the visit came from a conversation with a colleague.
“She mentioned how sad it is at this time for elders in old age homes.
“Some dress up and wait for a visit from their families which turns out to be a disappointment when they do not pitch,” says the Tsakane-born teacher.
Inkosinothando sang for the elders, gave them gifts and spent time with them.
Moeketsi says it is important for the youth to involve themselves in such acts because there is no greater feeling than making someone else smile.

“As youth we can make our communities a better place to stay,” she says.
On her drive to addressing social welfare issues, she says, “The positive energy is contagious with just one act of kindness. The greatest gift is the ability to share your blessings.”
Moeketsi says that the community can assist the home by giving food, toiletries and their time.
