KwaThema – Police have arrested five men for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle on Thursday.
The Trio-Task team was conducting patrols and stop and searches along Vlakfontein Road near Barcelona in KwaThema.
KwaThema police spokesperson Const Media Khoza says the police stopped a suspicious motor vehicle, a white Toyota Tazz with five male occupants.

“The vehicle was pulled to the side of the road and all occupants and the car was searched.
“Police recovered a 9mm browning pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition.
“The motor vehicle was circulated and it was a hit. It was hijacked at Zonkizizwe and reported at Zonkizizwe with CAS 31/03/2019 earlier this month,” she explains.
Khoza says all five occupants of the vehicle were arrested and further detained at KwaThema SAPS.
“The zero tolerance approach to crime has been successful because arrests and prosecution of criminals around the area have taken place,” she adds.
