Local social club uplifts learners

The learners could not contain their excitement as they received the shoes.

Tsakane – Kutlwano Social Organisation members donated 80 pairs of school shoes to two primary schools in Tsakane on Tuesday.

The first school to receive shoes was Khombindlela Primary School, whose learners received the first 40 pairs of shoes.

The next 40 pairs of shoes were donated to learners at Sizuzile Primary School.

Kutlwano consists of 90 men from Kwatsaduza who wanted to be more than just a social club.

Dumisani Mtsweni, the head of marketing, media and sponsorship, says, “We are a social organisation and this is part of our programme. We donate to schools around Ekurhuleni.”

The organisation previously distributed 1 000 pairs of school shoes to needy children in KwaThema from late last year to this year.

Inspired by their success, they decided to continue their good work by venturing out to other parts of Kwatsaduza.

The acting principal of Sizuzile Primary, Oupa Mokoena, expressed his gratitude and said this was the beginning of a new partnership that the school welcomes with open arms and hearts.

“We are very grateful to Kutlwano club for everything they have done for our children today.

“We are looking forward to building a relationship with them,” says Mokoena.

Nokuthula Hadebe (13), a Grade Six learner at Sizuzile Primary, says, “I am very thankful to the Kutlwano Social Organisation for giving us school shoes.

“I promise to take very good care of them as they are going to help me, especially now that we are approaching winter.”

Kutlwano Social Organisation also strives to create awareness of the importance of education.

Its members believe no children should remain at home because they do not have school shoes.

Mtsweni says it is important for the group to give back because education is the key to turning learners’ lives around.

“We want to see them educated because there is nothing one can do without education.

“In this day and age, education is of the utmost importance.

“They must take care of these shoes as they are a symbol of the journey that lies before them,” says Mtsweni.
