Tsakane learner to compete in national competition

“We have a lot of talented young people who would go very far in the competition if they are taught by a professional,” he says.

Tsakene – Ntombizodwa Mkhonza from Vuyani Primary School will soon be representing Gauteng in the national poetry competition.

She was crowned at the provincial competition held at Ga-Rankua Primary School last week.

The school principal, Taj Mokwebo, says they are very proud of Mkhonza for representing the school very well.

“The competition started at the school, where we saw a lot of participants and we narrowed it down to seven learners who went on to compete at the district competition on August 30, at the Gauteng East Teachers Centre.

“In the African poetry category, Benathi Gwebelane was first place, while Letta Sibiya was third place.

“In the Western poetry category, Mkhonza obtained position one.

“The group graduated to the provincial competition and Mkhonza progressed to the nationals,” he says.

Mokwebo adds they are calling on local poets to come forward to help coach the learners and help nurture their talent.

Taj says he is hoping that Mkhonza wins the national competition and makes the school proud.

“We have been working very hard for this final leg of the competition and believe she deserves it,” he says.
