Geluksdal – A local day-care centre has opened its doors for Kwatsaduza children whose parents cannot afford to pay fees.

The centre was established in 2016 by 46-year-old Girly Mbanjwa.

She says she was inspired by a former employee who used to pay fees for two children who did not have parents.
“The idea generated from seeing this lady pay fees for two siblings who did not have parents but were residing with their grandparents.
“That’s when I decided that I should do something to also give back to the community, and in our community there’s a high rate of unemployment,” she explains.
They currently have 12 children whom they providing for, including transportation.
“Once parents have enrolled the child, we provide food for them and learning material as well as pay for their transportation.
“We also take in learners who have nowhere to go after school and assist them with homework while they wait for their parents to fetch them,” she adds.

The centre operates Monday to Friday from 6am to 6pm, their intake starts from new-born babies to six-year-olds.
In January they ran a back-to-school campaign were they covered 265 books for learners from underprivileged households, and gave away 10 brand-new school bags.
“We went out to the community and asked for donations, we also contributed from our pockets.
“Everyone who contributed helped make a difference in the lives of so many children in our community,” says Mbanjwa.
