Residents urged to attend public meeting

Tsakane – The Maruping Resettlement Committee is requesting residents of Kwatsaduza to attend a public meeting scheduled to take place at the Tsakane Old Hall on Sunday from 9am to noon.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss unresolved land redistribution issues concerning residents who were relocated from the Brakpan Old Location several decades ago.

The committee recently submitted a letter of complaints to the Public Protector on January 6.

Committee secretary Nelson Mogudi says: “We took a decision to approach the office of the Public Protector because the metro has failed us dismally.

“We have been requesting to meet with them, but without any success and in the meantime they are continuing with new development at the Brakpan Old Location.

“We have made submissions to the Human Settlements Department, Land Reclaim Commissions and Rural and Land Department,” says Mogudi.

Committee chairperson Alfred Jele says this matter has dragged on for far too long.

“We are being given the run around.

“I would like to see the youth and the community of Kwatsaduza being involved and work together regardless of whether they were residents of the Brakpan Old Location or not.

“South Africans are facing a major challenge when it comes to housing, and most of these issues are due to officials being incompetent when it comes to doing their jobs properly,” says Jele.

The meeting is set to address feedback received from the Public Protector’s office.

“We are sick and tired of being side-lined.

“The community must give us a way forward, so we can decided on the next step to take,” says Secretary Mogudi.
