Hambani Development Centre to host an exhibition
The Centre operates at the Monametsi Training Centre and has partnered with the University of Witwatersrand to stage an exhibition show with the first official showcase scheduled for the centre on April 27.
KwaThema – Hambani Development Centre was formed in the early 1980s as a table tennis club, and subsequently registered as a non-profit organisation in 2016.
The centre operates at the Monametsi Training Centre, and has partnered with the University of Witwatersrand to stage an exhibition show, with the first official showcase taking place at the centre on April 27.
Centre manager Gilbert Motlhaping says they are hoping to turn the centre into a tourist attraction hub.

“Our township is full of history and inspiring stories to share. The unfortunate part is that most of it isn’t documented, which is why we are working on this exhibition.
“The project aims to educate and empower the community, particularly women and youth, with job opportunities while making efforts to empower the individuals with developmental and educational skills, and to encourage them to be active and productive members of society through sport.
The public can share some of the historic and memorable events of the NPO.
“The first families from the 1950s are more than welcome to share with us some of their photos, stories or objects which will help us to understand the origins of KwaThema much better.
“For this project we are sponsored by the National Heritage Council,” he adds.

The centre also provides free art classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm.
There are currently more than 50 students enrolled.
