KwaThema residents concerned about waste collection in the area
Leader of the group Tankiso Sebotsa says the group was formed after contractors from outside Ekurhuleni were contracted to collect waste in the area.
KwaThema – Angry residents, who call themselves ‘Concerned Residents’, have come forward following an article titled ‘Rubbish not collected’, published on African Reporter on March 13, on page 1.
The article stated that residents were responsible for waste not being collected in the area as they blocked waste trucks from entering the area, which has resulted in the community resorting to illegal dumping.

Leader of the group Tankiso Sebotsa says the group was formed after contractors from outside Ekurhuleni were contracted to collect waste in the area.
“The group is formed by residents to address this issue of people being employed without us being informed.
“To us, it doesn’t make sense how contractors who are not from here were employed for the job while so many of our people are without jobs.
“We feel that there are some irregularities taking place because there’s no transparency.
“We have submitted a petition and a memorandum at the customer care office and still awaiting feedback,” says Sebotsa.

Waste trucks have only collected waste in some parts of the area, while other areas are still battling with piled waste.
Ward 80 councillor Wilson Busakwe has refused to comment on the matter.
