Local coaches are calling on players to use the lockdown to train at home

Coaches urge players to stay healthy and fit during the lockdown.

Kwatsaduza – Coaches urge players to stay healthy and fit during the lockdown.

Technical director of the Springs Home Sweepers Mkhonzana Mkhonza say it is important for players to keep their fitness levels up.

“We are constantly in talks with our players; we have already provided them with an in-depth training programme they can follow at home.

“We are using chat groups to aid, share fitness tips and motivate each other to stick to our daily indoor training programmes.

“It is important for us to stand in solidarity in these trying times, as we fully understand the seriousness of this virus,” says Mkhonza.

He adds that players need to watch what they eat.

“What players eat contributes to their overall health; they need to have discipline and monitor what they eat.

“Which is why we have created an eating plan for them to follow,” he says.

Tebogo Gaduka, head coach of the KwaThema Cricket Club, says players can find training videos to do at home on their Facebook page and WhatsApp group.

He adds that players find it hard to follow a balanced diet due to economic challenges.

“The challenge we have is that most of our payers come from disadvantaged background, and following a healthy balanced diet is expensive.

“But we are encouraging them to include fruits and vegetables in the daily diets,” says Gaduka.
