Organisation joins the office of the Chief Whip to make food donations

KwaThema – Disadvantaged families received food parcels on Wednesday from the Lifestyle Foundation, in partnership with the office of the Chief Whip of Ekurhuleni and local councillors.
The foundation works hand in hand with the community in addressing social challenges and needs.
Lifestyle Foundation secretary Phindile Mabotjane says: “Our projects are based on what is needed in the community on that specific time.

“We understand that not everyone is going to have enough food during the pandemic, therefore, we saw it fitting that we should share what we have with those in need.
“We are open to assist wherever possible, those in need can contact us on 076 041 5181.”
Ekurhuleni Chief Whip Jongizizwe Dlabathi says the ANC caucus has delivered over 3 000 food parcels since the beginning of the lockdown.
“After the lockdown was announced by the President, and with the high unemployment rate, we realised that food was going to be a challenge for most of our citizens.
“People are able to put food on the table through daily hustling, working piece jobs and rendering services. With the new regulations none of that is possible, which means there is no money coming in. Therefore, people are not able to purchase basic needs.
“We then initiated the One Family One Food Voucher campaign,” explains Dlabathi.
He says that they have partnered with other organisations to make the food parcels.
“We have reached out to business and individuals to make the initiative a success, which is why we are here today.
“We decided to join Lifestyle Foundation because they are responding directly to our request as the caucus of the ANC, working together with local councillors.”
He adds that councillors within Ekurhuleni are working hard to ensure that the needy do have food during the national shutdown.

“We encourage the community, if you know of anyone or you are in a position where there’s a food shortage in your household, register with your ward councillor.
“But it is important that we emphasise that the parcels are for poverty-stricken families, those who can barely afford to make ends meet.
“And people need to take note of the fact that we might not have food parcels immediately but we keep a register of those families which have registered with their ward councillors.”
Ten households benefitted from the initiative.
