Addicts urged to make use of support groups

Tsakani – Church of God and Saints of Christ hosted a drug and substance abuse awareness campaign on Saturday at Tsakani Pre-primary School.
The event was a success as the community supported the initiative, along with various stakeholders. About 63 addicts attended the event.
Evangelist Herold Dodo expressed gratitude to all those who were able to attend.
“The event would not have been possible without the support of the community and all other stakeholders. “The aim of the event was simply to reach out to those who are going through a lot and, as a result, they have turned to substances just to cope.
“It makes me happy that most of them came out in numbers to join as the event was mainly for them,” said Dodo. Addicts are encouraged to continue attending support group meetings hosted by Dodo at his home in Tsakani, at 11029 Emaswati Street, every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm.
Ward 83 councillor Busisiwe Masuku said it was important to support such a campaign. “I have supported this initiative because the organisation is situated in the Dhladhla Village informal settlement. “Unfortunately, this informal settlement is highly affected by drug abuse, poverty and high unemployment. “The involvement of such organisations helps in the fight to eradicate social ills and contributes towards building a better society. “We are, however, calling on the private sector to assist NPOs as they do not have enough resources,” said Masuku.
