Tsakani – Duduza SAPS, in collaboration with their colleagues from Daveyton, brought the Coffee with a Cop initiative to Tsakani Mall on Friday.
The initiative aims to encourage communication and positive interactions between the police and the public.
Sgt Harry Manaka from the Duduza SAPS explained the intention is to directly interact with the public.

“We are giving the public an opportunity to interact with the police one on one.
“A cup of coffee ensures an easy mood for all parties involved, meaning people get comfortable and are able to express and voice out whatever issues they have.
“It is a platform for us and them to get to know each other better, and whereby members of the public can voice their views and grievances,” he said.

The initiative aims to encourage communication and positive interactions between the police and the public.

Manaka added the initiative helps the police deliver excellent services to the community.
Const Constance Moalusi mentioned the importance of removing the stigma which surrounds the police.
“The initiative is an ongoing programme to improve services and bridge the loopholes between law enforcement officers and the public.

“We are here today to also educate our people about gender-based violence, reporting cases, offering safety tips and general rules concerning the law.
“We want to remind our community members that police officers are people as well.”
While residents welcomed the gesture, some feel more still needs to be done to improve police service delivery.
Community member Selwyn Jezile said, “It is a great initiative but I feel it is limited.
“Not everyone comes to the mall.
“They need to host such initiatives within different parts, especially areas or sections which are highly bombarded by crime.”
