Provincial quarterly crime stats revealed

Kwa-Thema Police Station featured several times while Duduza Police Station was not listed.

Kwatsaduza – The January to March Gauteng crime statistics show a 14 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year.

This was revealed by Gauteng police commissioner Lt-Gen Elias Mawela during the presentation of the province’s fourth quarterly crime statistics to the Gauteng Legislature Committee in Johannesburg last Friday.

There is a significant increase in commercial crimes, truck and car hijackings, murder and sexual offences.

Moving closer to home, the Tsakani Police Station was featured in the top 40 troubled stations in serious crimes in the province.

Tsakani crime stats a concern in Kwatsaduza

Kwa-Thema Police Station featured several times while Duduza Police Station was not listed.

In the contact crimes category, there were 387 reported cases at Tsakani Police Station, a drop from the 403 reported cases from the same time last year.
This saw the station in position 28 provisionally and 63 nationally.

Kwa-Thema Police Station also made it to the list with 370 reported cases, which is an increase from the 298 cases. The station is in position 34 provisionally and 75 nationally.

Fifteen cases of murder were reported at Tsakani Police Station, seeing a five per cent decrease from the 20 cases, which were reported in the previous period.

Duduza crime stats revealed

This saw the station occupying position 20 provincially and 71 nationally.
There were 14 cases of attempted murder at Tsakani Police Station, seeing an increase from the 13 reported in the same quarter last year. The station occupied position 21 provincially and 78 nationally.
With regards to assault GBH, 172 cases were reported at Kwa-Thema Police Station from the 100 reported in the same period last year. This is a 138 per cent change. The station is in position seven provincially and 10 nationally.
Tsakani Police Station received 123 cases in the same category – a decline from the 129, which were reported in the same quarter last year. The station is occupying position 18 provincially and 35 nationally.
In the total trio crimes category, 67 cases were registered at Tsakani Police Station, seeing a case difference of 19 from the 48 reported in the same quarter last year. The station is in position 18 provincially and 34 nationally.
In the carjacking category, 33 cases were reported at Tsakani Police Station with a seven case difference from the 26 reported in the same period last year.
Twenty cases of robbery at non-residential premises were reported at Tsakani Police Station with a case difference of four from the 16 reported last year.
One case of cash-in-transit robbery was reported at Kwa-Thema Police Station.
Seventy contact-related crimes were reported at Tsakani Police Station, seeing a case difference of 12, while Kwa-Thema Police Station reported 58 cases – a decline from the 63 reported last year.

Tsakani crime stats a concern in Kwatsaduza

One case of arson was reported at Tsakani Police Station.
There were 69 cases of malicious damage to property that were reported at Tsakani Police Station. This is a decline from the 82 that was previously reported.
In the burglary category, 125 cases were reported at Tsakani Police Station, seeing a 15 case decline from the 140 the previous year.
The station is in position 14 provincially and 50 nationally.
In the commercial crimes category, 71 cases were reported at Tsakani Police Station from the 56 cases reported last year.
There were 206 crimes detected by the police at the Tsakani Police Station from the 236 cases reported last year.
As for drug-related crimes, 97 cases were reported at Tsakani Police Station, seeing a decline from the 166 reported in the same quarter last year.
Eight cases of illegal possession of firearms were reported at Tsakani Police Station, an increase from the two reported last year.
